Drinking Water Source Protection in Ontario is legislated through the Clean Water Act, 2006 and is part of the multi-barrier approach to ensure safe, clean drinking water for Ontarians, by protecting sources of municipal drinking water such as lakes and rivers. The Drinking Water Source Protection Program was established by the Provincial Government. Locally, this resulted in the development of science-based assessment report and the Mattagami Region Source Protection Plan authored by the Mattagami Region Source Protection Committee.
