The Approved Assessment Report is a required element in the development of a Source Protection Plan. The report contains the technical and scientific information that the Source Protection Committee will use to develop the Source Protection Plan.
The Assessment Report assesses the state of the City of Timmins municipal drinking water source - the Mattagami River. It describes the amount of water that is available for drinking and the quality of that water.
The report also describes the vulnerable areas around the municipal drinking water system where spills, pollution, contamination and overuse could harm source water.
Approved Assessment Report
The Mattagami Region Source Protection Committee's Assessment Report was approved by the Director of the Source Protection Programs Branch on October 7, 2010, and was posted on the Environmental Bill of Rights Registry on November 29, 2010.

Assessment Report Public Consultation Process
A 35-day consultation period followed the publication of the Draft Assessment Report on the Internet on October 22, 2009. Written comments from the public regarding the Draft Assessment Report were received by the Mattagami Region Source Protection Committee until November 27, 2009. Three sets of written comments were received by the Committee.
Two public consultation sessions to seek input on this topic were held on November 17 & 18, 2009 within in the City of Timmins. Advertisements for the "Open Houses" were placed in three local newspapers, municipal offices, and on the Drinking Water Source Protection website.
The Mattagami Region Source Protection Committee submitted their Draft Assessment Report to the Mattagami Region Source Protection Authority on December 2, 2009.
The Source Protection Authority held an additional 30-day public comment period which ended on January 7, 2010. The Source Protection Authority received two sets of public comments regarding the Proposed Assessment Report.
The Mattagami Region Source Protection Authority submitted the Proposed Assessment Report to the Director of the Source Protection Programs Branch of the Ministry of the Environment on January 19, 2010.
Amended Proposed Assessment Report
The Amended Proposed Assessment Report has been submitted to the Director of the Source Protection Programs Branch on September 2, 2010. Changes have been made to the Proposed Assessment Report as per the Directors letter received June 18, 2010. A "Change Document" has been created to highlight the amendments made to the Proposed Assessment Report.
